AT Protocol is magical

April 3, 2026

wrapped my head around the AT protocol and idk why it’s so underrated. to have my data for all the public apps i use in a single place is magical.

it obviously takes down the monopoly(storing user data) of big tech companies , AT protocol decentralizes everything and gives power back in the hands of users. anytime a new client can be made to render the same old data with 100% accuracy.

some important jargon:

DID (Decentralized Identifier) - my permanent cryptographic identity across all AT protocol apps.

PDS (Personal Data Server) - where my data lives, which i control or choose who hosts

XRPC - the protocol that apps use to query and read my data from my PDS

Firehose - real-time stream of all changes across the AT protocol network

AppView - servers that index and serve data for apps to display

Immutable records - posts and data stored as permanent, cryptographically signed entries i can’t erase from history (only delete)

you can use this tool to see the shape of your data: https://pds.ls
